Cameron Fuller, Scattered Clouds, 2015, aluminum, paint, plastic, lights, The Ozone Park Educational Campus, Queens
Scattered Clouds is an installation made for the entranceway of PS 316 in Queens. The inspiration for Scattered Clouds came to artist Cameron Fuller, when he thought back to his childhood when he would lie in the grass at night and watch the stars in the sky. This was something he did together, with friends and family. “Although we weren’t alone, there was something about looking up that generated a solitary, quieting moment where a spark of wonder flashed. As I looked up I saw everything that was out there, and imagined how it all worked.”
The piece is comprised of geometric wall panels and cloud shaped chandeliers. Opaque wall panels vault the ceiling in a meandering organic shape and four translucent clouds framed in aluminum glow above the reading area.
When Fuller thought about how to approach this project, about the children that would walk through this space on their way to the library, what he hoped to create a quiet moment, that instant when we look up, and for just a second, stand alone with our imagination.
