All construction managers, general contractors and subcontractors working on SCA project sites must be enrolled in the OCIP prior to commencement of any work. To become enrolled, complete a Request for Insurance form.
The SCA has a well-established Safety Program that guides and directs the management, staff, contractors and subcontractors working at SCA project sites. The Safety Program seeks to ensure establishment and maintenance of an accident-free/healthy workplace - to promote safe behavior and avoid workplace injuries or damage to property.
IF THE INCIDENT IS AN EMERGENCY, IMMEDIATELY CALL 911. If the incident involves an injury or illness, the supervisor, any designated safety personnel, and/or competent person should attend to the injured/ill individual(s) until Emergency Services arrive. After calling 911, call the Chief Project Officer, and if they are not available, the Vice President of Construction Management.
Any fines assessed for claims which are reported late are the responsibility of the contractor or subcontractor who failed to timely submit the claim.
**IN CASE OF SERIOUS INJURY, PLEASE IMMEDIATELY CONTACT THE SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION AUTHORITY INSURANCE TEAM AT 718-472-8778.**
If the site presents a safety hazard or if failure to clean up the site will result in further damage, begin cleanup activities.
Otherwise, preserve the incident site: preserve, tag, and photograph damaged property, equipment, and any potential evidence involved in the accident. Make sure nothing is removed from the incident site.
If a contractor makes repairs or hires other contractors to make repairs when damage is caused to a third party, this does not in itself mean that the insurance carrier will reimburse the contractor for the cost of repairs. The policy provisions clearly state the contractor is not allowed to make voluntary repairs or payments until the insurance carrier has had sufficient time to evaluate the damage (loss). By making repairs or making voluntary payments, the insurance carrier may find it difficult to evaluate the loss and may deny the claim.
Detailed information about the SCA OCIP can be found in the Owner Controlled Insurance Program Manual.
Please note - While the OCIP is intended to provide broad coverage, it is not intended to meet all insurance needs of contractors and subcontractors. The OCIP does not provide coverage for automobile liability, contractor equipment, payment and performance bonds, or disability insurance.
