Sun K. Kwak, Kairos, 2017, ceramic pigment on porcelain tile, PS 211, Queens
A colorful array of flowing lines were used by artist Sun Kwak to produce her artwork, Kairos. The porcelain tile mural spans the entire length of the entrance at PS 211 in Queens. Kwak’s lyrical brush strokes swirl and bend along the 140 foot façade before making a final turn at the corner of the building. Her rhythmic brushstrokes suggest a feeling of improvisation that both embraces and softens the school’s angular architecture. As you walk along the mural, you are invited to respond to the movement of Kairos and to the idiosyncrasies of the space and architecture.
