Dannielle Tegeder, Systems on the Move, 2018, porcelain enamel on steel, IS 323, Manhattan
Danielle Tegeder’s Systems on the Move is a porcelain enamel mural located in the lobby of IS 323 in Manhattan. The artwork consists of 9 panels and is 8 feet tall and 36 feet long. It depicts an interconnected network of abstract lines, dots and shapes rendered in autumnal colors. The imagery was inspired by architectural drawings, mechanical drawings, maps, traffic routes and HVAC schematics. In making of Systems on the Move, Tegeder mirrored the process in which a blueprint is translated into a real, permanent structure. She started with a detailed technical drawing which she then digitized and enlarged. That enlarged image was then produced in lasting materials of steel and enamel. The finished piece calls to mind people and cities in motion, connected through a complex system. Circles, squares, and lines become routes, conduits, stations, and hubs as they zigzag through the composition.
